Today marks the day we officially started our new company. After a few months of back-and-forth, several heated discussions about potential names (two hard things in software egnineering; cache invalidation and naming things, amirite?), Gumoji is finally a fact.
What does Gumoji mean? Well… so, “gumo”, or “kumo” means “cloud” in Japanese. Or spider. One or the other. Or so we’re told. The “-ji” is really borrowed from the word “emoji”. It makes it cuter, or at least tries to. So cute cloud/spider thingy, basically.
But most of all, it’s an empty canvas for us to project our own ideas onto, which is what we love about it. That, and the fact that the .com domain name was still up for grabs.
Starting a business is always a bit hectic. Setting up your bank account, your office, building your online presence… the usual stuff. But as hectic as it may be, it’s even more exciting. We’ve been working towards this for quite a while now, and we’re excited to start sharing our work with the world.
We hope you will join us on this new adventure.
See you on the flip side.
